I kept thinking I could just repent and try again.
But every day I kept falling. And every night I kept asking God for forgiveness and telling him I’d try harder the next day.
Can you relate?
Sure you can. We all can.
For me, I was overeating. For you, it might be lust, pornography, drinking too much, gaming or social media addiction, fits of rage, lying, gossiping, being lazy, or some other form of sin.
But for all of us, one thing is sure – we can’t overcome alone.
We need each other.
I finally texted my friend, Ron, and told him I needed to hold myself accountable to him for a week to get myself back on track with eating properly.
He encouraged me with a fist and prayer icon and said, “I know you can do it.”
A week later, I’ve hit my calorie goal every day and got the thumbs up icon from Ron every night.
It feels good to walk in the light, and to have spiritual victory again.
(Now, if you’re a woman, you may be wondering where the deep phone conversation was in all of this. But if you’re a man, you totally get it – fist bump icon here :-)
What’s the take-home point?
Some sins you can overcome between you and the Lord. Others require more than that. They require confession and intercessory prayer.
“Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16, NIV)
Is there something you need to get open about?
Help is only a text (or a phone call) away.
Go ahead and do it. You’ll be glad you did.
